As an East African, reading about the Frederick Douglass Film Company and the WERE HERE project filled me with pride since these are our distant relatives, and their stories matter deeply. Thank you for sharing

New Jersey as a whole was the seat of American film production between the 1890s and World War I; Fort Lee was like Hollywood before Hollywood. It might have remained that way if Thomas Edison's draconian enforcing of his patents hadn't driven everyone west.
